The Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Donald L. Harlow Airman Leadership School is the largest Airman Leadership School (ALS) for Airmen assigned to the National Capital Region. This Schoolhouse supports 5 MAJCOMS, 6 Wings, 800 GSU’s and 80 tenant units, while developing 400 students, through 7 classes annually. Each Class is comprised of up to four (4) flights with a max of 16 students per flight.

The mission of ALS is to prepare junior Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) for increased responsibilities by developing their leadership capabilities, improving their communication skills, and expanding their perspective of the military profession. Unlike other courses which evaluate one’s knowledge and comprehension using end-of-course exams, this course incorporates in-class exercises as well as performance tasks to assess student learning. This course is the first level of Professional Military Education our junior NCO's will receive and last for 24 academic days.
